Spring 2012 WORKSHOPS!!!

01-Aug-2011

The first spring 2012 workshops are now open for registration!

If you are interested in hosting one or more of these workshops, or if you are interested in participating in one scheduled elsewhere, please contact me soon (kgoeller@nolimitations.com), as available slots fill up quickly!
Viking Knit Basics:  Learn beautiful viking knit weaves with wire.  Workshop covers the basics of planning a chain, getting a weave started, and the basic weave pattern(s).  We then review the common variations available, and discuss unique approaches to drawing down over beads or gemstones.
  • Details and Registration:  Saturday March 10, 2012 (Doylestown, PA) 10 AM - 4 PM
  • Schedule a workshop:  Can be taught anywhere, no studio or flame permit needed.  Minimum:  4 students    $70 / student plus optional kit fee ($65), which includes all tools and materials you need to continue weaving on your own.
Viking Knit Advanced - Beads In and Out:  Move beyond the basics of viking knit to embellish your work with beads in 2 different ways.  The first technique has the beads on the inside of the weave for a subtle flash of color.  The second technique incorporates beads into the actual weave of the chain for a flashier and more colorful approach.  You need to know the basics of viking knit, as that will not be covered in this class.
  • Details and Registration:  Saturday March 24, 2012 (Doylestown, PA) 10 AM - 4 PM
  • Schedule a workshop:  Can be taught anywhere, no studio or flame permit needed.  Minimum:  4 students    $90 / student plus optional kit ($75).
Viking Knit Advanced - Shades and Colors:  Use color in a new way in your viking knit projects.  You can use bold bands of color, create gradient shades, and use multiple wires simultaneously for an ombre shading effect.    You need to know the basics of viking knit, as that will not be covered in this class.
Flat Weave Basics:  Learn the basics of flat weaving with wire to create lovely, flexible cuff bracelets.  Workshop covers the basics of planning and starting a weave, as well as single and double weaves.  We will discuss methods of finishing the ends of weaves for various cuff bracelet approaches, ranging from soldering to PMC.
6 - 7 hours.  If no flame/soldering equipment and station available, we will do "cold" ends and discuss other approaches.  Otherwise, we can do soldered and/or PMC ends.  Minimum 6 students.  $90/student plus kit fee (TBD), which includes the tools and materials to continue weaving on your own.  No soldering or PMC equipment provided in student kit.
Getting Started with Enameled Beads:   Systems like Pandora and other add-a-bead systems have increased the popularity of hand-made, artistic glass beads.  As a lovely alternative to lampworked beads, these beads start with a copper-tube core and are then built up with layers of enamels for unexpected and truly unique effects.  The resulting beads can then be finished with grommets, if you wish, or with silver or gold rivets for a very polished look.  This workshop will show you how to set up your workshop for enamel beadmaking (which is simple to do at home, in a garage or basement), and how to make and finish your own beads.  Because this technique requires practice as well as cooling time for the glass, the workshop is best taught over multiple days or multiple weekends.
20 - 30 hours, over multiple days or weekends.  Needs a space with workbenches or tables that will accept a standard vise, and with a non-flammable floor.  Good ventilation recommended.  $325/student (includes enamels) plus optional kit.  Students will be provided with detailed list of tools and supplies and may purchase/bring their own.  Otherwise, the kit will supply all of the basic setup, including portable torch, torch holder, vise, working surface, basic protective gear, mandrels, and copper.
